evaluation

Evaluation In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? For my poster I developed the conventions of a normal newspaper, I wanted my poster to stand out so I used bright colours and bold writing, this isn’t typical of a news paper advertisement, I looked at other posters and a lot had writing on in big bolds letter so I did the same but challenged this with the bright colours. I added a picture under this of a woman reading a newspaper, this is quite typical of a news paper but decided to use it as it is relevant. For the news paper I decided to stick to the normal conventions of a newspaper as it works well and it needs to be recognised as a newspaper, however in one of my stories I did challenge the normal stereo type of teenagers by adding in a story about a school raising money for charity, this shows teenagers in a better light. My newspaper is a local area newspaper, to stick to normal newspaper conventions I used local stories that the area would be interested in. For example is written about the snow as it is an issue that affects everyone. I used small fonts and pictures of every story to stick to how a normal newspaper would look and the front page has a main heading, every story with main headings. I did not challenge the normal conventions for the website as I feel it works well as it is, I used a main heading at the top and a navigation area to get around the site easily. I made the website easily recognisable by using the same logo and colours I have throughout. There are plenty of pictures and colour so it is not boring. I did this because after looking at other websites such as the sun and the daily news ‘websites I felt this is how it would look best. How affective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? The combination of my main product and ancillary texts work well together as they all are ways of people being aware of my newspaper. To link them together I made a logo that I used on every piece of work that I have done, with this logo I used a colour scheme of red, black and grey that I also used throughout my work. Having the website and poster that look like the newspaper works well in the media industry as it is a way of people finding out about it. By linking my work together it made it look more realistic. I used an advert from my newspaper on my website; I feel this made it look realistic and link together better. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Some good points I have heard from my feedback is that my newspaper and ancillary tasks are linked together well, that the stories I have writing link well with my newspaper and that the pictures are relevant and fit in with all my stories. Some points that need working on are, my website – it doesn’t look as professional as it could and the information on it is too similar too to my newspaper front cover making it look almost like a different format of the same work. I also would make my news paper stories more detailed if I had my time over however there is limited space and you don’t want people to get bored of reading the stories. Overall I think I did well with the tasks but the main fault with my work would be the website and if the project came about again I would manage my time better and have more time to work on my website and editing it.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
